Be Ready for ACH Rule Changes

Your money will soon move faster.

On September 15, 2017, rule changes for Automated Clearing House (ACH) credits and debits will take effect. As a result, most electronic payments will clear your account the same day you initiate the transaction.

The speeding up of the payment system means that payments you receive through ACH will end up in your account quicker (yay!), but the payments you make through ACH will also exit your account sooner (uh-oh). The float times we’ve become accustomed to will be greatly reduced, if not a complete thing of the past.

The changes will affect business and consumer transactions. Here are a few examples:

To avoid incurring fees from your bank, make sure funds are available in your account when you make payments online or by phone.
