Watch for Scams Targeting PPP Loan Recipients

Fraudsters are using publicly available databases to harvest information about businesses that received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The information includes the loan recipients’ names, where they bank, and loan amounts. The scammers are then contacting PPP loan recipients and using pressure tactics to gain access to their accounts.

How the scam works:

Scammers are impersonating bank employees by spoofing the bank’s phone number. They call or text the PPP loan recipients with urgent warnings about suspicious activity or other account issues to pressure the account holder into giving access to their account.
